About

Ready to add that finishing touch to turn your house into a home but frustrated by the limited custom valance options available to purchase and ship online? My Hidden Rod Pocket® valances may be just what you’ve been looking for!

I designed my Hidden Rod Pocket Valances with you, the customer in mind. I wanted them to be affordable, easy to hang, and inexpensive to ship. Fabric prices were going up, so in order to make them cost effective, I wanted to design valances that took minimal amounts of fabric.

Since they are installed using continental curtain rods instead of a traditional board mount, it means that anyone can install them. Plus since they fold neatly to be shipped in a regular size box, they end up being less expensive to ship than if they were shipped mounted to a board. Most important to me though, was that I could still provide the workmanship and custom details that I was used to during my many years of sewing for interior decorators!

Who I Am

“I’m a wife, a mother, and a seamstress who has a passion for home decor. As a black belt in karate I try to be a good role model and example to others. I believe that if you always do your best at whatever you do, then you are already successful.”

My Story

Having a sewing business has always been my dream in life. I’ve been sewing every since I could pick up a needle and thread but I officially started my first business in 1990 which was called Doshie’s Custom Sewing. I started out specializing in alterations and in making custom clothing.

I soon branched into custom prom and bridal wear. But when I made my first order for window valances, I knew I had found my true calling. I spent more than 15 years working with interior decorators to make their visions for their customer’s windows come to life before I decided that I wanted to use my skills to develop my own line of window valances.

When I started out, my main goal was that the valances be easy to ship, so I decided to start with a line of rod pocket valances. I thought it would be easy, but I soon realized that the rod pocket took up too much room when I was trying to create my designs. Then I came up with the idea to hide the rod pocket on the back of the valances. If I was able to do that, then I could create rod pocket valance designs that were intricate on the front but could still be installed using a basic continental curtain rod.

It took a lot of trial and error, pattern making, and sample making etc.. but I am proud to have been able to turn MY vision into reality! The first valance styles that I designed successfully were the EMILEE, the PEYTON and the MAISON, but since then I have gone on to design more than 20 other Hidden Rod Pocket® Valance styles.

Most can be seen here on my website, but there are also many that were custom designed to meet the needs of specific customers for their problem windows. In the future I hope to find the time to add them to my website but for now I only show them to potential customers when the need arises.

One more thing that I want you to know about me: Yes, I am really a blackbelt in karate! There is room for more that one passion in life and karate is mine. I have been participating in karate for more than 10 years now, and it has given me self-confidence and motivated me to be able to go after what I want and to achieve my dreams.

I didn’t just learn to fight, I learned to push through obstacles and to never give up! So after a long day of creating beauty for your windows, you will most likely find me at karate, helping to teach classes, and hoping to pass on everything that I have learned to the next generation of future blackbelts.
